Stop wishing, start doing

There’s nothing that gives major main character energy than working on your goals and making your dreams come true.

Most people spend their whole lives wishing for their realities to be different, but they don’t do anything to change them. They keep complaining without lifting a finger.

Only a few are the real doers – chasing their dreams and overcoming all the challenges placed on their paths.

If you just wish for things to happen to you, you’re not being the main character of your life. You’re waiting for life to happen to you, rather than making it happen.

The first thing you can do to become the main character is to start doing the thing – that thing – you really want to do.

It doesn’t matter if you’re bad at it. If you think everyone else has already done it. If you’re afraid you’ll fail. Or if you believe you don’t have what it takes.

When you have a dream, it’s your responsibility to work on it to make it happen, not anybody else’s. So, who are you waiting for? What magical sign are you waiting for?

Whether you want to:

  • Start blogging
  • Post consistently on social media
  • Write a book
  • Travel the world
  • Start a business

This is your sign to do it! Take one step in that direction.

It’s true: you don’t know whether it will work out or not; but, if you never try, you already know it won’t.

“Never give up a dream just because of the time it will take to accomplish it. Time will pass anyway.”

– Earl Nightingale

Give yourself what you need

The second step to being the main character of your life is to stop waiting for others to give you what you can already give yourself.

  • Why look for external validation, when all you need is to have faith in your decisions?
  • The love that you’re so desperately looking for can come from within, because self-love is the foundation and not the result…
  • What if you gave yourself the support you needed, instead of waiting the one from others?

Not everyone will agree with your life choices – and that’s ok, because it’s YOUR life!

You cannot live it waiting for the external world to give you what you can already find within yourself.

Instead of waiting for someone or for a future moment to bring you the love, acceptance, connection, clarity, motivation, or [insert here what you need] – why don’t you start giving it to yourself?

For example, if you need:

  • Clarity → Journal, instead of asking for answers to others
  • Motivation → Exercise, instead of looking at what others do
  • Connection → socialize, instead of scrolling through other people’s lives
  • Energy → Sleep, instead of trying to keep up with everyone else’s speed
  • Peace → Meditate, instead of comparing yourself to others

Those are all things you can do for yourself to feel better. They start from you.

Do what truly makes you happy

How can you be the main character of your life if you’re letting others influence you, instead of choosing for yourself?

You see, if you want to radiate that main character energy, you’ve got to be willing to go against the tide. To do what others aren’t doing. To do what you truly want to do, even if there’s no one there supporting you.

You are the protagonist in the play of your life – start acting as such! Follow your dreams. Pursue your passions. Make that big, scary, bold move.

Create a “to be done by” list

“Someday” is the word that kills all your dreams. Whenever you come up with a goal, project, or an idea and rely on “someday” to make it happen, you’re wasting your potential.

“Someday” won’t simply happen – it’s a mental construct we’ve built to make us believe we have all the time in the world to make things happen. It’s not true.

You’re here on this Earth for a limited amount of time – aim at making the most of it!

For every dream, desire, or aspiration you have, I want you to put a deadline to it.

Then, I want you to create a “to be done by [insert age here]” list of all the things you wish to accomplish by a certain point in your life.

Look at every single one of your points, and ask yourself: “How can I start making this come true?”. Because your dreams won’t magically appear “someday” in your life; you’ve got to make them happen!

Make your online space inspiring

Finally, the last point to becoming the main character is to make sure your online space is a safe and motivating environment.

“Your diet is not only what you eat. It’s what you watch, what you listen to, what you read, the people you hang around… be mindful of the things you put into your body emotionally, spiritually, and physically.”

– Tiny Buddha

Spending so much time online, it’s essential your online community is made of people who inspire and uplift you, not drag you down.

In practical steps, how can you do that? Well, start by:

  • Unfollowing accounts that make you feel bad
  • Muting accounts you can’t unfollow but that still harm you
  • Setting time limits for your apps
  • Filling your Instagram feed with feel-good content creators (like me!)
  • Using the Internet to get inspiring ideas – such as taking on a 30-day challenge
