5 Active summer hobbies

The goal here isn’t to achieve a summer body (aka you’re perfect as you are, and all bodies are summer bodies), but to find something that allows you to spend time outdoors and, at the same time, makes you feel your best.

1. Pickleball

Since it’s been trending in the last few years, pickleball is one of the most popular sports associated with the summer season.

Personally, I haven’t tried it yet – but this might be the summer I give it a shot 😉

Call your bestie or sign up with a local club, pick up your racket, and let the fun begin!

2. Outdoor yoga

Yoga is one of my favorite ways to stay active without breaking a sweat.

One thing I like more than yoga is when I can practice yoga outside – whether at the local park or, even better, at the beach.

Go solo, ask a friend to join you, or search for an online group, bring your yoga mat or towel, and enjoy this slow type of movement.

3. Color walks

Ideated by artist and writer William S. Burroughs, color walking has replaced our hot girl walks.

So, what’s this new TikTok trend all about? Going on a color walk means choosing a color and, on the same principle of the “I Spy” game, looking around to find things in that shade.

It’s great not only because it keeps you active, but also because it allows you to be more intentional – as you’re not mindlessly walking in town but you’re actually looking at things differently, under a new light. (Or color;) )

4. Water sports

Whether you want to try surfing, kayaking, paddleboarding, or canoeing, summer is the perfect season to give any of these water sports a try.

I know, some of them seem scary – but I always think going with someone makes things less scary and more fun!

5. Cycling

I don’t know about you but, when I was a kid, I loved going on bike rides!

Biking with my family, after dinner, to go get an ice cream remains one of my core summer memories. And if it wasn’t for that, my sister and I would bike around all afternoon simply to kill time.

It’s a simple hobby you can easily pick up this summer, so why not give it a try?

5 Creative summer hobbies

If you’re looking for ways to express your creativity, here are some nice hobbies for you to try this summer:

6. Journaling

There’s nothing a pen and cute notebook cannot solve!

Journaling is the perfect activity to get to know yourself on a deeper level, figure out what you want, and process your emotions in a healthy and mindful way.

7. Jewelry making

Why not make some cute necklaces, bracelets, and anklets with the seashells you pick up at the beach? You can make them for your family and friends too, give them as gifts, or even set up a stand in your hometown. You’ll be surprised by how many people love handmade and unique pieces of jewelry

8. Coloring & painting

Let your inner child come to play and express your creativity. Whether you want to paint on canvas or find a good adult coloring book, it’s time to bring those colors out!

9. Cooking & baking

Use the summertime to experiment in the kitchen and craft your perfect summer recipe. Use seasonal fruits and veggies and come up with your staple dish for the warmer months.

Personally, I love a good cucumber-watermelon-feta salad…Have you ever tried it?

10. Gardening

Maybe you’re not creative in terms of pen and paper (or colors), but you have great skills when it comes to gardening. The longer and warmer days make it so easy to stay outside, and gardening is the perfect way to get some extra outdoor time.

5 Intentional summer hobbies

Summer is a great time to slow down and be more intentional about how you spend your time. Here are some activities that will allow you to savor more the present moment:

11. Meditating

There’s nothing better than meditating to tap into a more serene version of yourself.

It doesn’t matter if you only have 5 minutes a day, use them to meditate – and you’ll see how much better you’ll feel. If you can have even longer practices that’s even better!

12. Reading

Summer is the perfect season to go through your TBR list.

I mean, how good is it to read under the umbrella at the beach? Or sitting on a bench at the park? Or as you sip your coffee in the tranquility of your home?

13. Sunbathing

Picture this: you, a sunny day, an empty beach, a good book, and a refreshing drink. Doesn’t that sound amazing?

This summer, I want you to spend some time…simply being. Do nothing. Just exist. Lay underneath the sun. Let the sunshine kiss your skin. Breath. Simply exist.

14. Hosting gatherings

If you love organizing things, summer is your season as it’s the perfect time to organize picnics, parties, and dinners.

Why not take the lead and be the host of them all? Invite your friends, create the perfect menu, set the vibes, and let the fun begin!

15. Forest bathing

Also known as “shinrin-yoku” in Japanese, forest bathing is the art of immersing yourself in nature.

Go to a local park, follow a trail near your house, or go anywhere you know there are plenty of trees and plants.

Be surrounded by green scenery, and experience the positive benefits of engaging in this mindful practice.

5 Digital summer hobbies

Last but not least, here are the summer hobbies you can do from the comfort of your couch:

16. Start blogging

Have you always dreamed of sharing your thoughts with the online world? Blogging is the perfect way to do that!

You can monetize your passions, build a community, and become friends with like-minded people.

Don’t get me wrong: it’s hard work but, if you love writing, this is the perfect outlet!

17. Watch TV shows & movies

Not every day the sun will shine…so, for those days when the weather won’t be on your side, or when you want to spend a cozy night in, you can sit on the couch and enjoy some good TV.

I mean, I don’t know about you but I certainly know what I will be doing on July 16…(Any TSITP fan here?)

18. Grow your social media

Have a message you want to share with the world or a passion you want to showcase? In this digital and ultra-connected world, it has never been easier to do so.

Why not stop wasting time online and use it to make a difference instead?

If you want to become a content creator, this is your sign to start! Start now, where you are, and with what you have.

19. Learn a new skill

If you’ve ever wanted to learn a particular skill, you can spend your summer months doing it. The great thing? Now you can find almost anything online!

Maybe you want to learn a new language – so an app like Duolingo is perfect.

Maybe you want to learn how to code, play an instrument, or improve your calligraphy – then Skillshare is your place.

Or maybe you want to learn more about different topics, but in a fast and easy way – then Headway is what you’ve been looking for!

20. Connect

Instead of doom-scrolling and feeling disconnected, why don’t you spend your time online making sure you’re actually doing what technology should help you do? (Aka connect to others?)

Reach out to long-distance friends. Find your people. Build a community.

Use technology to unite, rather than isolate.
