What Is A Vision Board?

A vision board – also known as a “dream board” or “goal board” – is a collage of pictures, words, and quotes that embody everything you’d like to achieve or experience in your life.

It’s basically crafting your dream life and putting it on paper!

Vision boards are powerful tools for visualization because they make your big goals more tangible, visible, and achievable.

Do Vision Boards Really Work?

Although you might believe manifesting is another “woo-woo” trend soon disappearing, the principles behind manifesting are backed up by science.

There are two main reasons why making a vision board can help you reach your goals faster – let me explain them.

  1. They boost your selective attention – which is the tendency to look for and absorb information that only confirms pre-existing beliefs.

When you create a vision board with goals you want to achieve, you finetune your frequency to attract more aligned opportunities.

Have you ever noticed that, when you say you want something, soon you see it everywhere?!

Perhaps, you desire to get a Golden Doodle and now you see them everywhere – that’s selective attention at play! 😉

Vision boards work because, by exposing yourself to certain imaginary, you’re more likely to filter out opportunities that help you get closer to your goals.

  1. Research shows that similar neural pathways are activated when thinking of doing something and actually doing it.

What does this mean, in simple words?

That our brain doesn’t have a clear distinction between what’s imagination and what’s real!

How can you use this to your advantage?

Well, if you put the right images on your vision board and visualize them often enough, your brain will start thinking that everything is real! (And soon it will be) 😉

How to Make a Vision Board that Works

It’s no secret that manifesting is a powerful tool used by athletes when training, but also by celebrities like Jim Carrey for manifesting wealth, Oprah Winfrey for manifesting career growth, and even Tom Holland for manifesting love.

So, if you’re no longer skeptical about it – let’s dive into how you can harness the power of vision boards to manifest your desires!

5 Steps to Create a Vision Board for Manifestation

There’s no set of rules to follow when making your vision board – but here, I’m gonna provide you with a 5-step framework of how you can easily create a vision board to manifest everything you desire!

1. Know your values

First, before getting into the real process of making your vision board, you must know your core values

Your core values act like a compass that helps you navigate through life challenges and important decisions.

If you’re clear on your values, whenever you’re presented with two choices and don’t know what to decide, you can refer back to your core values to help you make that choice.

Only by knowing what you value the most, you can create a vision board that’s in alignment with your most authentic self. That’s the first step toward crafting your dream life!

For example, if you value freedom the most, you’ll create a vision board that’s filled with sand beaches, palm trees, dreamy coworking spaces, and beautiful landscapes.

But, if you’re an ambitious young woman who wants to kick off her career, then your vision board will be something more like city vibes, 9-5 settings, and lots of money.

2. Reflect on your life

After visualizing your dream life, you need to get a picture of what your current life looks like.

Why? Cause, in order to get where you want to go, you first need to know where you’re at.

Break down your life into different categories, such as:

  1. Body
  2. Mind
  3. Heart
  4. Soul
  5. Path
  6. Money
  7. Determination
  8. Discipline
  9. Dedication
  10. Time
  11. Goals
  12. Habits

How would you rate each of these areas from 1 to 10? What areas do you need to improve most? What areas are making you most proud, instead?

Any change starts with awareness.

Be honest with where you’re at in life now, then ask insightful questions to make the right changes.

3. Define your goals

The third step to creating your vision board is to define the goals you’re trying to manifest in your life.

What is it exactly that you want to achieve, this year? Is it a promotion? A check in your mailbox? A new puppy? Or your dream vacation?

  • What kind of promotion do you want? What outfit are you wearing on your promotion’s day? What are you doing to celebrate the event?
  • What’s the amount on the check? What day is it when you receive it? How do you react to it as you open it and realize how much money you got? What is the money for? How are you going to spend them?
  • What breed of dog do you desire? How old is the puppy? What’s the name? Is it a boy or a girl? Where are you taking your puppy when going for walks?
  • What’s your destination? Which outfits are you bringing with you? Are you alone or in good company on your dream vacation? What experiences are you making? How are you feeling during this trip?

The more specific you are with your goals, the better it is.

Ask yourself lots of questions and be as detailed as possible when answering!

Steps to Create Your Vision Board

4. Find inspiring images

Once you’ve got all your answers, it’s time to find the right images.

My go-to place for inspiration is Pinterest

You can use any platform and tool you’re most comfortable with: Unsplash, Instagram, magazines, drawings – and even your own pictures (if you already have some with the vibes you’re going for) 😉

Collect all images that speak to your soul and make you feel something.

You want to feel inspired, light, enthusiastic, and motivated when looking at your vision board – so consider including anything that has you feeling that way.

5. Include affirmations

To make your vision board more powerful, you can also add words for guidance and positive affirmations.

Think about the motives driving you to reach your goals.

What are you chasing? Is it freedom? Independence? Love? Connection? Purpose?

What do you need most in this moment of your life? Is it clarity? Focus? Motivation? Peace? Self-compassion?

Surf on Pinterest for positive affirmations and motivational quotes, or simply add some powerful words that can make your vision board even more meaningful and inspiring.

Vision Board Ideas

If you’re short on ideas, here are some things you might consider adding to your dream board:

  • Places you want to see
  • Areas of life you want to improve
  • Your dream vacation
  • Hobbies you’d like to pursue
  • Your dream house
  • Life goals to achieve
  • Skills you want to learn
  • Achievements you want to reach
  • Passions you’d like to pursue
  • Projects you’d like to start
  • Experiences you want to live
  • Emotions you‘d like to feel
  • Your dream relationship
  • Affirmations for guidance
  • Positive reminders
  • Where you want to live
  • Which car you want to drive
  • What clothes you’d like to wear
  • Your dream job
  • The amount of money you want in your bank account

Include anything that acts as a visual reminder of where you’re headed – so that you’ll always be able to find your way back when you feel lost in life.

How to Use Your Vision Board in the New Year

For your vision board to work, you must know it’s not a one-time process. Here are some tips on how you can use your vision board throughout the new year to manifest your dream life:

Make it visible

Once it’s done, it’s time to put it e-v-e-r-y-w-h-e-r-e!

Create a vision board to use as your phone wallpaper, as your desktop background, and even make a poster-size one to print and hang on the walls of your room.

These are only a few of the places where you can place your vision board…But there are a lot more, such as:

  • Next to your mirror
  • In your car
  • On your fridge
  • On an empty wall of your house
  • Inside of your daily planner
  • On the dinner table
  • On your nightstand
  • Across from your bed

Think about the places where you usually spend most of your time, and then make sure to incorporate a copy of your vision board there.

The more you see it, the more you’re reminded of it – and the more you’ll take actions that are aligned with it!

Have a manifestation ritual

If you find it hard to give enough time and importance to your vision board on a regular day, then you can take it a step further and create a manifestation ritual.

Decide on a specific day, time, and duration to look at your vision board, manifesting and attracting your dreams, goals, and desires.

  • You could turn it into a daily ritual – for example by visualizing your vision board for 5 minutes during your nighttime routine
  • You could make it a weekly appointment – deciding to use your Sunday reset routine as a reminder to manifest
  • Or you could plan one day per month where you spend an intentional hour in total “manifestation mode”

Adjust your vision as you go

Finally, if you want to make your vision board work for you, there’s an important thing to keep in mind: it’s ok to keep adjusting your vision board as you go!

Even if you create a vision board at the beginning of the year as a part of your new year planning process, you are allowed to change it 3, 6, or even 9 months into the year!

Maybe you’ve realized that you don’t really want something – although you thought you did.

Or maybe you’ve already achieved a goal early in the year, and so it doesn’t make sense to keep it any further.

Give yourself permission to change ideas, change your mind, change your goals and vision. It’s totally ok!

As you evolve as a person, it’s normal that your vision board changes with you.

Don’t be afraid to change things up – get rid of the old or unnecessary, and make more room for what really matters 😉
