11 Ways to Romanticize Your Life this Spring

PLAN SOMETHING

It’s easy to get sucked up in the monotony of routines.

Habits, systems, and routines are essential to guarantee we go through every day spending the least amount of energy on things we’re familiar with…

But this is not always beneficial.

If you spend too much time trapped in the uneventfulness of your daily routine, you might feel like life starts missing its spark.

What to do, in this case? The best way to feel excited about life again is to plan something!

When you have something to look forward to, days will start to feel lighter and more exciting.

I’m not suggesting you should live your life on a countdown, but there is something about having plans that make us look at our future and feel more optimistic (instead of hopeless)

Here are some things you could plan in order to have something to look forward to:

  • Romantic date with your significant other
  • Brunch with your girlfriends
  • Day trip near where you live
  • A massage
  • Appointment at the hair salon
  • Weekend getaway
  • Your next vacation
  • Workout class

EMBRACE THE GOOD WEATHER

One way to romanticize your life is to embrace the good weather that comes with the transition to springtime

Whether you’re a summer-lover or prefer colder vibes, it’s hard to hate Spring. I mean, everywhere you look is thriving, blooming, full of life – isn’t that beautiful?

To make the most of the new season, you can find easy ways to embrace the good weather and soak as much vitamin D as you can. For example, you can:

  • Run or go on a walk outdoors
  • Plan a picnic with your friends
  • Spend an afternoon at the park
  • Start a new outdoor hobby (such as gardening)
  • Play outdoor sports (tennis, pickleball, golf – you name it!)
  • Watch the sunset at a scenic point
  • Drink your coffee on the patio or in the backyard
  • Go fruit picking

Taking advantage of the good weather comes in small, easy ways – and it’s the perfect trick to romanticize your life a little bit more this Spring!

HAVE A WEEKLY TREAT

Let me ask you a question:

“Why do you have to wait to ‘treat yourself’ and do so only if it’s a special occasion?”

Romanticizing your life means making every day special, so why not treat yourself more often than just on Christmas Day or your birthday?

This is your sign to adopt the weekly ritual of treating yourself – at least once a week! (But feel free to do it every day – why not?!)

You are special!

Every day you spend here, on this Earth, is special.

So why not honor it?

Giving yourself a weekly treat is a form of self-care and self-love. It’s listening to what you want and not waiting for others to give it to you!

Your weekly treat can be anything you want it to be. The important thing? It has to make you feel good about yourself!

It could be something as small as:

  • Buying your signature coffee from your favorite coffee shop
  • Purchasing a new candle to make your room cozier
  • Getting yourself that sweet treat you’ve been eyeing
  • Buying yourself flowers (yes, Miley!)
  • Having a spa night
  • Getting your nails done
  • Baking your favorite cake
  • Rewatching your favorite movie or show

REFRESH YOUR VISION BOARD

There are only a few things that get me more excited than freshening up my vision board.

Whether you have already created a vision board for your year or not (yet), Spring is the perfect time to manifest your dream life a little bit more.

So, arm yourself with time and creativity, and get ready to surf on Pinterest cause…it’s time to get inspired!

Pinterest is my go-to place when making vision boards. I usually take the pictures I like from there and then upload them as a collage in Canva.

How to refresh your vision board? Here are some questions that can help you get inspired to find the perfect images:

  • What does my ideal day look like?
  • What are my habits?
  • Where do I live?
  • What kind of experiences do I want to have?
  • How do I feel?
  • What do I do daily?

Once you define what your dream life looks like, it’s time to make it visual!

CREATE A SOUNDTRACK FOR YOUR LIFE

How cool would it be to have a soundtrack for your life?

Well, it’s something you surely will want to do to romanticize your life a little bit more. I mean, it will feel like you’re part of a movie!

One of the principles of “Feel-Good Productivity”, a best-selling book written by Ali Abdaal, is that work will feel more “fun” if you find ways to make it more enjoyable (so that you’ll also be less likely to procrastinate)

How can you make doing the things you have to do more fun so that you want to do them?

Well, a good practice is to create a curated life moments playlist based on your mood and the different tasks you must accomplish. For example, you can create a:

  • High-energy playlist for when you exercise
  • Focused playlist for when you need to study or work
  • Chill morning playlist to not dread the thought of waking up early
  • Summer vibes playlist to be happy during those long, winter days
  • Peaceful sounds playlist to help you wind down during your night routine

Life is more fun with music! What are you waiting for? Be the DJ of your life!

EMBRACE BOREDOM

Many people hate being bored.

That’s why they try to avoid it as much as possible by turning to unhealthy coping mechanisms such as: emotional eating, mindless scrolling, drinking, and so on.

The truth is that there’s nothing wrong with being bored and – actually – it would be quite more beneficial if we all embraced it more often.

As we grew up, we learned that we should fill every gap, every hour, every minute of our lives with something.

We’ve unconsciously agreed that’s unproductive to rest, yet we wonder why we’re stressed out and feel overwhelmed all the time.

This is your sign to say “Shut up!” to the little voice in your head making you feel guilty when you’re resting or whenever don’t have any plans.

It’s okay to be bored. It’s okay to do nothing.

HAVE PLANLESS SATURDAYS

Connected to the previous point, one way you can romanticize your life this Spring – or all year long – is to have planless Saturdays.

Planless Saturday is a concept created by Gen Z’s Carrie Bradshaw – also known as Eli Rallo – to encourage people to “go with the flow of life”

There’s so much pressure around making the most out of the weekend.

I mean, our Monday through Friday is already packed up with work, meetings, commitments, responsibilities, and workouts; so why there’s so much pressure to do stuff on the weekends too?

If you’re wondering: “Can’t I be just a couch potato Saturday through Sunday?” – yes, you could!

But, adopting Planless Saturday is a better way to romanticize your weekends – and life in general 😉

So, from now on, I want you to wake up on Saturday morning and ask yourself:

“What is that I want to do when the world doesn’t require me to do anything?”

Start from there. Embrace spontaneity. Go with the flow.

BE MORE MINDFUL IN YOUR DAYS

An underrated way to romanticize your life is to bring mindfulness to your daily rituals and routines

Sometimes, life feels like it’s passing you by because your mind is constantly in some other place.

Once you learn how to be where your feet are, you’ll start noticing more the beauty that’s hidden behind mundane gestures.

How can you be more mindful, every day? You could start as simple as:

  • Holding your cup of coffee with two hands, tasting every sip of it
  • Having a strong muscle-mind connection when you exercise
  • Practicing active listening, really paying attention to the person you’re talking to
  • Adopting mindful eating
  • Starting a daily meditation practice

ADD FUN TO YOUR DAYS

When you feel like life has lost its spark, it’s a clear signal that you must change something.

If life doesn’t feel “exciting” anymore, you must find ways to add more fun to your days!

Don’t panic, though! Having more fun doesn’t necessarily mean you have to spend lots of money on unnecessary things, waste your precious time, and adopt an extravagant lifestyle.

Here are some simple and easy ways to add more fun to your days:

  • Try a new workout class (ideally with a friend)
  • Learn a new skill or language
  • Go to a pottery class
  • Have dance parties in your living room
  • Switch up your routines
  • Sing in the shower
  • Take on a new challenge
  • Have a weekly treat (see #3)
  • Change something about your look
  • Experiment in the kitchen with a new recipe

CREATE A CUSTOMIZED MORNING ROUTINE

Another great way to romanticize your life is to create a morning routine for Spring – ideally, one that’s tailored to you and your needs.

“How you start your day is how you live your day. How you live your day is how you live your life.”

– Louise Hay

You want to make sure to start your day on your terms.

How do you want to feel before the whole world starts creeping in?

What do you value as important and should be addressed first thing in the morning?

Out there, you’ll find tons of tips and morning routines you should follow in order to be the most productive, or to feel your best.

The truth? Only you can know what’s best for you!

So, when designing your ideal morning routine, really make sure to include only things that matter and make you feel good – rather than what the world is telling you should do.

For example, this is what my current morning routine looks like:

  • Waking up anywhere between 6:30 am and 8 am (depending on the day)
  • Deep breathing for 5 minutes
  • Journaling
  • Reading a couple of pages of “The Pivot Year”
  • Practicing yoga for 5 minutes
  • Having a healthy, balanced breakfast

The rest of the world has the whole day to grab your attention. So, be intentional with the way you start your day. In the morning, focus on you.

COLLECT MEMORIES

Finally, there’s no better way to romanticize your life this Spring than to collect a bunch of memories!

Whether you want to do that by:

  • Taking pictures
  • Journaling
  • Filming videos
  • Writing letters
  • Collecting souvenirs
  • Starting a memory scrapbook

Make sure you capture every moment!

Every moment counts, so don’t let them pass you by…

Be present in every moment of your life and, while you’re at it, create something to look back to afterward 😉
