Looking for some practical self-care tips for the Fall season? Good, then you’re in the right place!

Transitioning to Fall isn’t easy. As many are thrilled to pull out the Halloween decor, some others struggle a lot during the winter months.

If you belong to the latter, you’re probably wondering: “How can I embrace the Fall season feeling my best?”.

I hear you.

The American Psychiatry Association estimates that people feel fatigued, demotivated, and lazy for about 40% of the year. The cause? SAD – also known as Seasonal Depression Disorder.

Whether you:

  • suffer from SAD
  • are not into the cold weather and dreading the transition to the new season
  • or – on the other hand – are so thrilled about Christmas coming up that you’re counting down the days…

In all cases, I’m so glad you’re here!

NOTE: This post is part of a collaboration series with LifeByGerthy. To get fully inspired, you should go check out her article at this link and learn the other 5 self-care tips she recommends you try out this Fall.

Are you ready to discover the 5 self-care tips to best embrace the Fall season and make the most out of it? Then, let’s get started!

1. FEEL YOUR FEELINGS

Almost everyone you know is getting excited about it.

All they do is talk about PSLs, getting cozy, having movie-marathon nights, baking seasonal recipes, and setting goals for the new season.

Yet, you don’t get it.

You’re not excited.

As you watch the leaves turn orange and fall from the trees, you can’t stop feeling melancholic and sad.

Why can’t it be summer all year long?!

I get it. (Summer is my favorite season, so I really get it!)

Whatever it is that you’re feeling, it’s valid.

The excitement home bodies are experiencing is valid.

Your nostalgia is valid.

They are both equally valid.

It’s not your fault if you don’t feel excited as you transition to the Fall.

One of the best forms of self-care you could do for yourself is to allow yourself to feel your feelings without judgment.

So, go ahead and play “Wake Me Up When September Ends” while sobbing and watching your summer photo dump – if that’s what you feel like doing. (No judgment here) πŸ˜‰

2. ESTABLISH A SELF-CARE ROUTINE

You shouldn’t wait until your battery level is at 0% to make some time to recharge.

If you want to make the most out of the Fall season, one of the best self-care tips you should adopt is to establish a self-care routine.

Yes, a routine!

This means it’s something you should do regularly, not once in a blue moon.

As you stick to a morning routine, you should create and stick to a self-care routine as well.

Self-care doesn’t look the same to everyone; that’s why you should spend some intentional time tailoring a routine that makes you feel good – despite all common tips.

To give you some inspiration, though, here are some self-care activities that you could consider including in your Fall self-care routine:

  • Taking a hot, relaxing bath
  • Going for a hot girl walk listening to your favorite podcast
  • Face-masks, baby!
  • Getting cozy & watching a movie
  • Curling up under a blanket to read
  • Reaching out to someone you love to hang out or talk
  • Drinking a warm cup of tea while listening to relaxing music
  • Meditating
  • Practicing some gentle movements, such as yoga
  • Decluttering your (mental – physical – digital) space
  • Journaling

3. STICK TO HEALTHY HABITS

Transitions are not easy – I know…

But, even when all you want to do is stay in bed all day to avoid the cold weather, you must stick to your healthy habits.

I know, it doesn’t sound like self-care, but I promise you: practicing your daily, healthy habits is one of the best things you could do this Fall.

Why?

Well, if you’re healthy you’ll face the winter blues much more easily!

I promise.

Healthy habits do not only include eating clean and moving your body.

It’s much deeper than that!

Let’s see some of the healthy habits you should stick to this Fall to feel your best! Shall we?

TOP SELF-CARE HABITS TO ADOPT THIS FALL

SELF-CARE TIPS FOR YOUR MIND

Having a healthy mind means being in a positive mental space that allows you to perform your best.

What are some self-care tips that will allow you to have a positive mindset this Fall? Let’s explore some of them together!

  • Limit the amount of daily screen time
  • Journal your thoughts out
  • Read to guarantee continuous learning
  • Consume content that inspires and motivates you (HEY! Are you following me on Pinterest?)
  • Do a September Reset to boost your productivity
  • Pursue a creative hobby (painting, knitting, doing pottery)

SELF-CARE HABITS FOR YOUR BODY

A healthy body does not equal lean, skinny, or whatever “diet culture” taught you.

I won’t focus on the way a healthy body should look like.

I want to focus on the way a healthy body feels like.

A body full of energy.

That allows you to do what you love while feeling your best.

So, what are some self-care tips to ensure you feel your best this Fall? Here are some ideas:

  • Move your body every day (even just doing some gentle movements will do the trick)
  • Drink enough water daily, including one big glass right after waking up
  • Follow a healthy, balanced, and nutritious diet
  • Take in all your vitamins and supplements
  • Apply sunscreen even in the wintertime
  • Exfoliate, moisturize and nourish your skin

SELF-CARE TIPS FOR YOUR SPIRIT

Let’s not forget about your spirit – which, simply put, is feeling at peace with who you are and where you are in life.

It means accepting your reality for what is while knowing that you can and will improve it to the best of your capabilities.

Here is a list of self-care tips to ensure you have a healthy spirit this Fall:

  • Focus on your reaction to the event rather than on the specific event
  • Meditate every day to tune in with your highest self
  • Repeat positive daily affirmations
  • Pay attention to what you say to yourself through your internal dialogue
  • Practice the habit of self-compassion
  • Allow yourself to eat foods that are not only good for your body but also for your soul

4. ROMANTICIZE THE SEASON

“How can you ask me to romanticize the season if I can’t even stand it?!”

That’s probably what you’re thinking now…

But, that’s also why the whole concept of ‘romanticizing’ something was created in the first place: to make something more enjoyable!

Romanticizing something means making the ordinary feel extraordinary.

Making the boring things in life feel fun and light.

And, in this case, romanticizing the season means turning the Fall season into something you dread…a little bit less!

Some of the best ways to romanticize your life this Fall include:

  • Cooking warm meals using seasonal veggies and fruits
  • Re-watching ‘The Harry Potter Saga’
  • Going for hot girl walks while listening to your favorite podcasters
  • Slowly starting your day with an intentional morning routine
  • Buying a Fall-scented candle

5. STAY BUSY

This will sound controversial considering the usual self-care tips you read on the Internet, but one of the best ways to ensure you embrace the Fall season at your best is to stay as busy as you can!

Obviously, this doesn’t mean sacrificing your sleep or overbooking your agenda so much that you don’t have time for your self-care ritual (see tip #3).

Staying busy this autumn is the best way to ensure you stay far away from those winter blues!

It’s easy to want to stay in every night when it’s cold outside, but doing so is super detrimental to your mental health.

You have to keep being social.

You have to make an effort to reach out to people.

Fear not cause you don’t have to do anything wild!

Some simple ways to stay busy this Fall could be:

  • Organizing a monthly solo date
  • Planning at least one weekly meetup with friends (movie night, coffee date, you name it!)
  • Signing up for a workout class
  • Scheduling weekly calls with your family and relatives if you live far from each other
  • Joining an online platform to make new friends in your area

Motion creates emotion.

The more time you spend living your life, the less time you have to think about your life.
